What is this Big Fan Project all about?
I know what it’s like to be a fan, because I am one. I was once active on the Blink-182 and Fall Out Boy message boards, I joined Livejournal because I turned into a massive My Chemical Romance fan and eventually ended up on Tumblr because of my love for All Time Low and various other bands.
I both loved and hated being a fan of a band: I made amazing friends, but I also felt that fans weren’t taken seriously. To get access to perks, fans had to become members of fan clubs while it wasn’t even sure that the band was even coming to their country. I noticed that some of my fellow fans were brilliant photographers, designers and writers, but the chance that the band, their management or a magazine editor would see their work was slim to none. It both saddens and empowers me: It is time for a change and together we can make it happen!
I’m currently trying to get my Master’s degree in Music Business Management and decided to write my final project on something that’s very close to me: fans. The project will look at fan communities, how they function, how fans are being management and how they actually want to be managed.
Wouldn’t it make sense if members or mods of big Tumblr pages would be allowed to interview the band or get easier access to photo passes? What if your Tumblr would be the first to hear about new tour dates, upcoming videos or news about a new album?
I’m planning on not only writing this final project, but I also want to present it to the people who represent our favourite bands to let them know that we still love them, but that there’s room for improvement. They need to know that their fans have an opinion, have creative talents and want to spread the word about the music they love!
How do you want to be treated as a fan of your favourite band? If you want to be interviewed, then please leave your AIM screenname in my ask or take a few minutes to complete one of the surveys linked in this post All your information is confidential and your name and contact information will not be shared with any third parties, unless you give explicit permission!Thank you very much for all your help and inspiration: I wouldn’t be able to do this without you.
Love,
Angelique
SURVEYS
For fans of All Time Low
Guys, if you haven’t done this already, please go and fill out at least one of these surveys! A friend of mine is looking into researching fans and the way they communicate with each other and the bands they love. You’d be helping someone out and, at the same time, making the music industry a better place for fans like you and me. It’ll only take a few minutes, I promise!
If you’re interested in being interviewed for this, leave your details at the end of the survey and Angelique will get back to you about it!
